Resound Unite is a series of easy-to-use wireless accessories that give people with hearing aid a new dimension in connections to TV, mobile phone and other essential devices in their daily life.
GN ReSound is one of the world’s largest providers of hearing instruments and diagnostic instrumentation. All products are based on deep audio logical insight and on the commitment to understand user needs. ReSound has been responsible for a number of hearing industry “firsts” and have built a strong global brand.
When ReSound contacted us, they already had a range of possible new products in mind. They had done a market research with inputs from users and defined the specific product needs. It was all clearly described in a detailed project brief that was the starting point for our job.
We worked in close collaboration with the project group from ReSound through three interesting phases:
First the basic user needs were discussed and preliminary decisions on the intuitive interaction parameters where taken. The interesting part of the discussion was how to create the best design for an extremely wide target group. The devices where primarily aimed at fitting the “Less or not technology-minded” users above 60 years of age, while at the same time, the “technology-minded” persons in the age range 8-60 should be considered as possible users.
In the second phase we worked with style and ergonomic optimization. We investigated special MMI requirements for users with reduced sight and tactility and made practical tests. An interesting aspect regarding the product style was that ReSound needed an
expression that could be used in the sister company Beltone Inc. as well. We made a “style and expression comparison” to define the style variables before working with the balances. In the last phase the visual user Interface (screen menus etc.), 3D CAD and high end looks-like models for the final presentation were made. ReSound then did an external presentation for user groups to get the final confirmation and feedback on the product design and ergonomics. The feedback was positive and the final engineering was carried out by engineers from ReSound.
